Project Summary

Welliver was responsible for the complete renovation of the Rockwell Museum, which is the largest collection of western art east of the Mississippi River. The team worked tirelessly in the three-story, 150-year-old building, to turn it into a more modern, beautiful museum. The museum hosts artifacts, educational displays, art exhibits, conferences, a gift shop and employee offices. The building, last renovated in 1982, received an entire interior overhaul along with an addition and a terrace overlooking the city of Corning. The parking log also received a new look resembling a Western motif. Welliver also renovated and updated the Cantina space located on the street level of the museum.

Features include entry stairs that we relocated from the exterior of the building to the interior to allow for handicap access. The interior mahogany stair configuration was restored to its original layout with a rustic look to make a world-class lobby and welcome area. The renovation created a world-class museum atmosphere used to display new exhibits and large enough to accommodate additional visitors. Ten separate gallery spaces were renovated to house permanent and temporary exhibits of various western subjects and art collections.
