Welliver was hired for this 38-acre project that combines all freshman housing, dining, and recreational facilities on North Campus to meet Cornell’s goal of providing freshmen with a unifying introduction to university life. The site plan integrated new facilities for freshmen into the existing fabric of North Campus. To turn Cornell’s needs and concepts into two residence halls and a three-story Community Commons building, Welliver undertook the single largest masonry job in company history – employing over 90 masons for this specific project. Project successfully completed in 16 months.
Project Highlights
- State-of-the-art Mews, Court, Kay, and Bauer Halls provide ample and comfortable meeting, program, and recreational spaces. Appel Commons, a recreational and first-rate dining facility, anchors the complex.
- Welliver, in conjunction with Campus Residential Life, developed a Residence Issue Mitigation Plan that allowed campus operations to continue and were uninhibited by construction operations.
- Welliver installed webcam services and designed a project specific website that was hyperlinked to the campus website to allow communication and updates to be disseminated to all interested parties.
