With demand for student housing in and around the Ithaca area on the rise, the new residential facility is being constructed on the highly developed College Avenue at the edge of Cornell University. This collegiate housing complex consists of four buildings and 357 apartments.
Catherine Commons features 23 different floor plans with options for studio, 1-, 2-, and 3-bedroom apartments. The property includes expansive windows, stainless-steel appliances, in-unit laundry, high-speed internet, on-site fitness center, student lounges, and dedicated study rooms. Additionally, there is 2,600 square feet of commercial retail space along College Avenue and a parking lot for ADA compliance and service vehicles.
This is a new construction, cold formed metal framing project. The exterior is comprised of metal panels, terracotta siding, and granite panels. There is a combination of aluminum storefront, curtainwall, and windows, as well as vinyl windows.
This project’s urban design has made site logistics challenging. Cranes were erected on each site to help offload directly from trailers. College Avenue was also being reconstructed during the project impacting production and access which required detailed delivery schedules and complex critical path planning.
