Welliver provided Design/Build services for the renovation of a former retail building into a new specialties and rehabilitation medical office building in Big Flats. Guthrie has seen a significant increase in the number of patients it serves in the Elmira/Corning community. In order to meet the increased demands for services, the building was designed and built to provide care relative to orthopedics, occupational medicine, cardiology, pain management, hand therapy, and physical therapy.
Patient convenience and industry leading technology were key factors in the design of the 60,000 SF medical office building – much of which was not provided in the former building’s infrastructure. The construction of the facility required teamwork between all parties to quickly resolve unexpected disruptions while maintaining a fast paced schedule.
A construction challenge resolved by our team involved an existing sprinkler system that serviced a fully functional pediatrics facility connected to the building we were renovating. Due to old age and corrosion, this sprinkler system was found to have leaks. Welliver facilitated additional testing of the existing system to determine which location needed replacement or maintenance. Our team monitored the situation throughout the project lifecycle to ensure a fully functional sprinkler system in the newly renovated medical office building.
